Extra-High Voltage Power Cables

Extra-high voltage (EHV) XLPE cables are designed for high-load, high-voltage transmission networks requiring robust insulation, efficient heat dissipation, and long-term operational stability. The cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation system provides excellent dielectric properties, thermal stability, and strong mechanical performance in both dry and humid environments.

Key Features

Performance Requirements

Highly Uniform Insulation

XLPE insulation is produced from ultra-clean polyethylene combined with crosslinking compounds and stabilizers. The material must be precisely mixed and fully dispersed to achieve consistent dielectric strength, aging resistance, and minimal moisture absorption.

Smooth, Bonded Interfaces

The interfaces between the conductor shield, insulation, and insulation shield must be smooth and void-free. Any irregularity or poor adhesion can cause local field intensification and partial discharge, significantly reducing cable lifespan.

Zero Defects in the Insulation Layer

Voids, moisture, contaminants, and protrusions must be eliminated. Under high voltage, these defects accelerate discharge, water-treeing, and insulation degradation.

Operating Temperature

These cables are engineered to operate with conductor temperatures of up to 90°C under normal loading, 130°C under short-duration emergency loading, and up to 250°C for short-circuit conditions lasting up to 5 seconds.

Customized Design

Cables can be custom-designed and manufactured to customer requirements, including 66 kV and 230 kV ratings, to meet various voltage levels and system needs.
